Tec Troit stands as Detroit’s uncompromising, free, and fiercely independent answer to the corporatization of the city’s electronic music legacy. Created as a grassroots Tec-Troit first began as a grassroots response to the shifting landscape of Detroit’s electronic music scene in the years following the expansion and corporatization of Movement Electronic Music Festival. Tec-Troit was founded by longtime underground advocates DJ Roach 313 and Moses Malone — two figures deeply rooted in Detroit’s warehouse culture and committed to protecting the city’s sonic identity. Their mission was clear from the beginning: restore access, remove financial barriers, and return the spotlight to the community that built Detroit techno from the ground up.

DJ Roach 313, known for his raw, industrial selections and unwavering dedication to Detroit’s foundational sound, envisioned Tec Troit as a reclamation project — a space where authenticity outweighed production gloss and where artists were booked for skill, not sponsorship leverage. Alongside him, Moses Malone brought organizational leadership and a boots-on-the-ground understanding of grassroots promotion, ensuring the event remained sustainable without sacrificing its principles. Together, they rejected pay-to-play models, corporate title sponsorships, and VIP segmentation, opting instead for a format that kept the show free and open to the public. In doing so, Tec-Troit quickly became more than an event; it became a cultural statement.

Over time, from starting in warehouses Tec Troit evolved into a symbol of artistic sovereignty in a city globally recognized as the birthplace of techno. Its stages honor Detroit pioneers while creating space for emerging talent, reflecting the founders’ belief that preservation and progression must coexist. The event maintains a strictly underground ethos — powerful sound systems, minimal commercial branding, and a lineup philosophy that centers Detroit artists first. That openness to evolution reached a historic milestone in 2025 when, for the first time, JJ JET a live MC and Drum and Bass performance was integrated into the traditionally techno-focused festival — signaling a widening of Detroit’s underground dialogue, bringing people together through rhythm, perseverance and harmony while proving that the resilience of Techno and the Pulse of Detroit lives on!
